Arrived in Switzerland...

Arrived via good American "Airmail" to Switzerland in a biggish town outside of Zurich called Winterthur. Its elevation is not that high something like 1400 feet or so, but it feels like the mountains and theres lots of trees and sunshine. Surprisingly for February there has not been any snow, just sometimes sideways rain (with lots of wind! Scary!) and all the building here have protections on them so you "hear" the sound when its very windy, its strange! Mostly though its sunny and probably about 70F degrees in American. I heard there is a castle nearby (called Schloss Kyburg)

Here is what the weather looked like when I arrived, plus a selfie :)
My "host" is a relative of Catalena. She's young but some kind of banker, spends a lot of time on the phone talking to people in New York and San Francisco which seems funny because she is in the countryside! She cooks a lot so the smells are nice. Tonight she started packing her bags saying things like, "confirm. New York. Meeting." so I'm guessing soon we leave for somewhere but I am not totally sure. My host goes by "Ellie" and seems to know a lot about Swiss cheese, Mexican food and some kind of finance?

I found a work picture of Host Ellie, she's on the left of the work looking photo.
Here's some information about Winterthur, Switzerland:
- Approx. 110,000 people live in this town which is a LOT for Switzerland! Its the 3rd largest city and still in the "Canton" of Zurich, a Canton is like a "County" in America.
- The country bird of Switzerland is called the Turaco.
- Switzerland is known for its mountains including many ranges like the French Alps, Swiss Alps, Italian Alps, which all border Switzerland because its country is in the middle of many countries. There are also many many lakes, some of the cleanest in the world. Most people in Switzerland even if they are new speak at least three (3) languages. I've heard host Ellie in English, Spanish, German so far...
- Switzerland is mostly known for its cheese and chocolate, and to some banking for the ultra wealthy but I only heard this rumor
- Right now the weather is nice but I see my host packing both summer clothes and a big jacket... who knows where is next! I've heard something something "Miami" but also "deadlines in New York." Good news is I fit in any suitcase! I'm ready!

My host seems nice enough. She is American and was born outside San Francisco, California and speaks good English. She eats a lot of Mexican food which is confusing in Switzerland but nice enough. Stay tuned.

Thank you so much for the post! It was great learning a little bit about Switzerland and seeing that Flat Stanley made it there safely. We know that he is in for a real adventure. We had a few questions about Switzerland and your travels.
- Have you visited the castle you mentioned in you post?
- Is Switzerland famous for any sports?
- Do you have any hobbies in Switzerland?
- How long of a plane ride is it from New York to Switzerland?
- How long have you lived in Switzerland?
- Do you have any other big trips planned besides New York and Miami?

Thanks again,
Catalena and the rest of the Southern Valley 2nd grade class
